HARLEM — For a local youth hockey league, holiday tidings came early this year.

Just before a practice session Wednesday night at the Lasker Rink in Central Park, members of Ice Hockey in Harlem were showered with dozens of new skates and hockey sticks — a $20,000 holiday surprise.

The kids were surprised with the new gear in the rink's locker room.

The donation to the nonprofit was the brainchild of Dylan Gallagher, a 12-year-old Upper West Side resident who took up a charity project for his Bar Mitzvah.

Gallagher, who plays hockey but is not part of the league, collected used hockey equipment and other gear from friends to assist the Harlem organization.

CCM, a hockey equipment manufacturer, got wind of Gallagher’s good deed and worked with him to supply brand-new gear.

“I just wanted to give back to the community and put a smile on these kids’ faces,” he said.

The company does a social media campaign called CCM Assists, which encourages hockey players like Gallagher to do charity work.

The nonprofit has been serving the Harlem community since the 1980s and now works with more than 200 local players to improve their hockey skills and academic performance in school.

John Sanful, the executive director, said the gifts will help the organization continue.

“Every year we talk about the same thing, “How are going to get money?” he said.

“It’s a big foundation of how we’re going to move forward.”
