Mom, Stepdad Arrested for Choking and Beating 8-Year-Old Daughter

By Eddie Small | December 7, 2016 2:21pm

SOUNDVIEW — A Bronx mother and stepfather have been arrested for beating and choking their 8-year-old daughter, according to the Bronx District Attorney's office.

The girl told police that her stepfather Curtis Younger, 21, choked her on Friday around 3 p.m. in their home on Manor Ave. and that her mother, 26-year-old Tyesha Younger, punched her in the throat the next day around noon, prosecutors said.

The mother and stepfather have both been charged with endangering the welfare of a child and were arraigned on Monday, where they were released without bail, according to the Bronx District Attorney's Office. They are due back in court on Jan. 26.

The Administration for Children's Services is investigating the case and released a statement saying they are "deeply concerned about the allegations."

The agency did not comment on questions about whether the daughter was now in their custody and whether the Youngers had previously been investigated.

ACS has been under fire in the wake of two recent incidents where young children died after allegedly being attacked by their mothers' boyfriends.

Jaden Jordan, a 3-year-old boy from Brooklyn, was beaten into a coma by his mother's boyfriend roughly one week ago and passed away on Sunday, sources said.

The boyfriend, 24-year-old Salvatore Lucchesse, is accused of attacking Jordan in their West Fifth Street home and has been arrested.

Zymere Perkins, a 6-year-old Harlem boy, was beaten unconscious by his mother's boyfriend on Sept. 26 and died that same day, police said.

Prosecutors said Zymere suffered months of abuse from his mother Geraldine Perkins and her boyfriend Rysheim Smith, both of whom have been charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
