QUEENS — A driver was killed and his passenger hospitalized after a collision with a concrete wall in Queens that led to a car fire, police said.

The unidentified driver of a 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee was exiting the Grand Central Parkway onto Union Turnpike shortly before 8:30 p.m. Saturday when he sped off the ramp and across three lanes of traffic, mounted the sidewalk and crashed into the parkway overpass, police said.

The jeep caught fire, and by the time police arrived, the driver was dead, according to the NYPD.

A 31-year-old male passenger was rushed to New York Presbyterian Hospital Queens in critical condition, police said.

An investigation by the NYPD Highway District's Collision Investigation Squad is ongoing, police said.
