MANHATTAN — A woman was applying makeup in a Sephora with her purse slung over her shoulder when a thief snuck up behind her and fished her wallet out of her bag, police said.
The 44-year-old victim was looking in a mirror and putting on makeup inside the Lexington Avenue store, near East 60th Street, when a woman took the wallet, according to authorities.
The theft occurred at about 6 p.m. on Nov. 18. The wallet contained the victim's ID card, $100 cash and a number of gift cards and credit cards, police said.
The woman's stolen credit cards were later used to make purchases at a department store, police said, though they could not say which store or how much was charged on the cards.
A surveillance photo released by police shows the suspect as a woman with short hair wearing a black leather jacket.
