EAST VILLAGE — Local meat and dairy purveyor Barnyard Cheese will open at a new location by the end of the week, with its sister wine shop slated to take over an adjacent space soon after, according to its owner.

The shop, which for eight years sold a selection of cured meats and artisanal cheeses along with a menu of sandwiches and salads, shuttered its longtime storefront at 149 Avenue C and plans to reopen at 168 Avenue B by Friday, Dec. 2, according to owner Beatrice Gutierrez.

Gutierrez said she also plans to move sister wine shop Brix from its space of nine years at 649 E. Ninth St. directly next door to Barnyard's new space by the end of the year.

"It was always the goal to have them together," Gutierrez said.

Gutierrez closed the Avenue C shop roughly two weeks weeks ago, on Nov. 13, and says she has been met with anxious inquiries from longtime customers ever since.

"We see the same people every day," she said. "It's a very warm feeling to have them say "Oh my god, are you open yet?'"

Though the new shop will serve the same sandwiches, it may eventually expand its offerings to include more homemade dishes, said Gutierrez, noting she chose to move because the new spot has a full kitchen with a stove and a spacious oven.
