CLINTON HILL — After a year in Bay Ridge, Smorgasburg favorite Bon Chovie is bringing its signature fried anchovies to Fulton Street.

The fried-fish spot is opening at 884 Fulton St., the former home of Cynical Schnauzer, this Thursday after closing its Bay Ridge location a month ago.

Bon Chovie will share a kitchen with Saucy by Nature, the catering company run by Cynical Schnauzer’s Adolf Przemek, and operate the main restaurant space.

Przemek and Bon Chovie founder Renae Holland go back to the launch of Smorgasburg, when both chefs sold food out of neighboring tents.

“He’s such a great guy and I think it’s a really cool, unique opportunity for him to do the catering and for me to take over front of the house,” Holland explained.

The new fish joint will be casual with a nautical theme, offering a light snack menu and a lobster boil for its opening weekend as it waits for permits from the FDNY to operate a fryer in the space, she noted.

Holland said she expects to have the full menu available by the second weekend that will include Bon Chovie’s signature fried anchovies, fish and chips, fish tacos and lobster rolls.

The restaurant will be collaborating with local brands like MOMO Dressing and Queen Majesty Hot Sauce for different dishes.

Specialty cocktails with a tiki theme will use local spirits such as Owney’s rum and Barrow’s Intense Ginger Liqueur.

Prices will range from $8 for appetizers to $24 for a lobster roll, as well as $10 for cocktails.

The new location will have the same specials as the Bay Ridge location, including dollar oysters on Thursdays, a steamed lobster dinner with sides for $29 on Fridays, bottomless mussels for $19 on Saturdays, and $3 mimosas and bottomless brunch for $19 on Sundays.

There will also be regular drink specials, including beer-and-a-shot specials, as well as special events like karaoke nights with dollar oysters.

Holland, who lives two blocks away from the new spot, said she’s looking forward to working near other Smorgasburg vendors like The Good Batch.

“I really love this neighborhood — it’s so dynamic and such a great community,” she said. “It’s cool to see a bunch of Smorgasburg alumni all close by in the same spot.”

Bon Chovie will be open from noon to 11 p.m., Thursday through Sunday. The restaurant will open at 5 p.m. Dec. 1.
