STATEN ISLAND — Residents can share ideas on a planned design for an under-construction section of Freshkills Park at a meeting this week.
The Parks Department will hold a visioning meeting on Wednesday to get feedback on plans for the $30 million city-funded Freshkills Park's South Park, the agency announced.
The meeting will be from 6 to 8 p.m. at the JCC of Staten Island, at 1466 Manor Road, Parks said.
In August, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced a new program to spend $150 million on major improvements to five "anchor parks" — ones that are within walking distance of 750,000 residents — in each borough, PIX 11 reported.
The landfill-turned-park was the Staten Island site chosen and it received $30 million for new recreational facilities, the Parks Department said.
Residents can get updates on plans for the South Park portion and feedback on the designs proposals that will use the funding.
The 2,039-acre park is opening in sections, with the entire space expected to open by 2025.
