UPPER WEST SIDE — A student at Martin Luther King Jr. High School was issued a summons Monday after trying to bring a stun gun through a metal detector, the NYPD said.
The 17-year-old told school safety officers he forgot he was carrying the weapon when he stepped through security at the school on 66th Street and Amsterdam Avenue about 10 a.m., police said.
The teen, who is from Manhattan, was issued a ticket for the violation, the NYPD said.
The DOE said everyone inside was safe.
"Nothing is more important than the safety of students and staff," DOE Spokeswoman Toya Holness said in a statement. "The NYPD immediately responded to the Martin Luther King Jr. campus in Manhattan and recovered the stun gun."
