UPPER EAST SIDE — A deli worker was struck by a cab that hopped a curb and slammed into a building on York Avenue and East 79th Street Friday morning, officials and witnesses said.

The taxi rammed into Health Wise Pharmacy at 1494 York Ave. at about 9 a.m., hitting the worker as he was headed down a cellar in front of the shop to get supplies, according to FDNY and the victim's co-worker.

The employee, identified only as Tony, works for York Deli next door to the pharmacy, said co-worker Marlon Montenegro, 36, who found his colleague sprawled out on the floor of the cellar after the crash.

"I was working and I heard a big slam — bang! My coworker jumped and I heard a window crack," Montenegro explained. "It was really scary. I saw him laid on the floor and I saw the taxi, and I said, 'Oh man.'"

Tony injured his hip and leg, but it wasn't immediately clear whether it was from the impact of the car or from him falling down the stairs of the cellar, Montenegro said.

One window of the pharmacy was shattered and a deli window was cracked following the crash.

The driver and employee both sustained minor injuries and were taken to New York Presbyterian-Weill Cornell Medical Center, the FDNY said.

Police said they are still investigating the crash.
