BROOKLYN — A man was shot in the head and critically wounded following an argument Wednesday night, police said.

The 22-year-old victim was fighting with another man on Rochester Avenue between Herkimer and Fulton streets around 8:31 p.m. and punched the man, police said.

Then he started running from the man he'd punched, according to police.

He made it a half a block south to the corner of Herkimer Street where the man shot him on the right side of his forehead, police said.

Police were alerted to the shooting by multiple 911 calls and found the man lying face down in the street, officials said.

Emergency workers rushed him to the nearby Interfaith Medical Center where he was in critical condition, police said.

The shooter fled the scene and hadn't been arrested as of Thursday, police said. The investigation is ongoing.

So far this year, 50 people have been shot in Bed-Stuy, a 66.7 spike in shooting victims from last year when 30 people were shot, according to police statistics. There have been 38 shooting incidents, up 40 percent from last year.

Overall across the city, shootings are down by 10 percent, police statistics show.
