Here's How Transit Will Be Impacted on Thanksgiving Day

MIDTOWN — Brace for these service changes for those of you staying close to home this Thanksgiving holiday.

Here’s the breakdown provided by the MTA:

Subways: Service will operate on a Sunday schedule Thanksgiving Day. For those attending the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade the closest subway stations to the start will be the 1 at 79th Street and C at 81st Street.

The 42nd Street Shuttle will have additional service and the 1 line will run more trains Thanksgiving morning.

Trains will run on a normal schedule Wednesday and Friday and the weekend service changes will be announced later in the week, an MTA spokeswoman said.

The Staten Island Railway will run earlier express service Wednesday starting at 2:30 p.m. from the ferry terminal. Service will operate on a Sunday schedule Thanksgiving Day.

Buses: Service will operate on a Sunday schedule Thanksgiving Day. Riders should check their line’s Sunday route to make sure it will be running.

The following bus lines will be diverted because of the parade: M4, M5, M7, M10, M20, M31, M34/34A SBS, M42, M50, M57, M66, M72, M79, M104, BxM2 Q32, QM2, QM4, QM5, QM6, and X1.

Commuters can check the MTA’s service status alerts for changes per line.

Buses will run on a regular schedule for Black Friday.

LIRR and Metro-North: Both commuter lines will provide additional early afternoon service on Wednesday for those leaving the city for the holiday.

Both lines will run additional trains on Thanksgiving for those heading to the parade and will provide off-peak fares Thursday through Sunday. Riders can check detailed schedules for Metro-North and LIRR.

Bridges and Tunnels: All maintenance-related lane closures will be suspended from 6 a.m. Wednesday through Monday morning rush hour. Fast Track Sandy recovery work will still go on at the Queens Midtown Tunnel and Hugh L. Carey Tunnel through the weekend.
