Speeding Driver Busted for Marijuana Possession in Gowanus, Police Say

PARK SLOPE — A driver who swerved across a double yellow line was busted for possession of marijuana at Third Avenue and Third Street, according to a police report.

An officer spotted the driver in a 2001 Mitsubishi sedan, speeding as he drove over traffic lane lines at 11:55 p.m. on Nov. 9. When the officer pulled the driver over, he found a marijuana cigar in the car and discovered that there was a warrant out on the driver for a previous marijuana possession charge, according to the report.

Other recent crimes in the 78th Precinct include the following:

► A 17-year-old boy was arrested for possession of marijuana at the Wyckoff Gardens public housing complex on Nov. 7 at 5:05 p.m. after an officer saw him with marijuana in public view.

► A 47-year-old man was arrested after stealing another man's Galaxy 5S on Sixth Street near Third Avenue on Nov. 12.

► A woman had her $700 iPhone 6S stolen from her workplace on Second Street off Seventh Avenue after she left the phone on her desk while she went to the office kitchen for 15 minutes on Nov. 9.

► A thief swiped a New York Giants NFL jersey from Petland Discounts on Fifth Avenue and 13th Street on Nov. 8 at 5:30 p.m.

► A 51-year-old man's $200 bike was stolen from in front of the YMCA on Ninth Street between Fifth and Sixth avenues on Nov. 10 between 5 a.m. and noon.

► A vandal broke the rear passenger window on a blue 2010 Subaru Forester parked on Sterling Place near Vanderbilt Avenue on Nov. 4 at 7:30 p.m.

► A $430 Trek bike was stolen from near Eighth Street and Sixth Avenue on Nov. 7.

Overall, major crime in the 78th Precinct has dropped 8 percent this year compared to the same period in 2015, according to the most recent statistics from the NYPD. There were 769 major crimes reported between Jan. 1 and Nov. 6, 2016, and 839 major crimes during that period in 2015.
