HIGHBRIDGE — A crew of police impersonators complete with fake badges and flashing lights stopped a man and stole his car, according to the NYPD.

The five men stopped their 33-year-old victim on June 20 by W. 172nd Street and Shakespeare Avenue around 6:40 p.m., told him they were police officers and ordered him to get out of his car, police said.

They then left him on the sidewalk and drove away with both vehicles, according to police.

The victim was not hurt during the robbery, police said.

It's unknown why details weren't released by police until five months after the incident.

Video shows the group of men pulling up behind their victim, walking up to his car, getting inside and driving away with it.

Officers described the suspects as men between 20 and 35 years old who stand between 5-foot-8 and 5-foot-10. They have medium builds and were wearing baseball hats and shields around their necks.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS.
