MIDTOWN — Hundreds of students from the Beacon School walked out of class Tuesday morning and took to the streets in the pouring rain to protest President-elect Donald Trump.

Students carried signs reading “Dump Trump” and chanted “My body, my choice” and “We reject the president-elect” as they marched south on Seventh Avenue about 11:30 a.m.

“We’re protesting Trump and trying to let minorities know we support them and will fight for them,” Beacon senior Beatrice Kilkelly-Schmidt, 17, said. “Even though we’re young, we still have a voice.”

Junior Kofi Swanson, 16, said it was important for politicians to hear from young people.

“He’s not gonna represent us properly,” he said. “I don’t know how well the protest is going to do, but we’ll voice our opinions. There’s a lot of uncertainty right now over what’s going to happen.”

The DOE said it encourages kids to think outside the box, but that the students could be disciplined for the walk out.

"Students who leave school will be subject to appropriate consequences in accordance with the Discipline Code," DOE Spokeswoman Toya Holness said.
