MIDTOWN — The markets plunged as Donald Trump began to lead in the presidential race Tuesday night.
The Dow Futures were down nearly 700 points by 10:40 p.m. as results came in showing Trump winning Ohio and leading in Florida. The markets had leveled out in recent weeks as Hillary Clinton was projected to win the election by a healthy margin.
Investors moved money to safer bets like bond markets, according to CNBC.
The election was expected to not be decided until early in the morning with Clinton losing states she was expected to win.
Clinton did win New York State, as expected.
