HARLEM — A 58-year-old woman was swindled out of $4,500 in a sweepstakes scam, according to the NYPD.

The woman received a letter in the mail on Nov. 1 telling her she had won $4,865.65 in a sweepstakes offer but needed to send a check for $4,500, police said.

The victim sent a cashier’s check from Bank of America and then tried to deposit the sweepstakes check, but it bounced, police said.

After contacting the NYPD later that week she learned she'd been a victim of a scam, police said.
