LOWER MANHATTAN — A subway conductor was attacked by a passenger on a downtown E train, police said.

The 49-year-old conductor was punched in the face by a man as the train was arriving at the Spring Street station at about 9:45 a.m. on Oct. 26.

The man, who is estimated to be about 5-foot-8, 30 years old and weighing 160 pounds, ran out of the train after the assault. The conductor was left with a split lip and swelling, police said.

Police are still looking for the attacker.
