Man Shoots Woman in Leg in Harlem Elevator, Police Say

HARLEM — Police are looking for a man who shot a woman in the leg after firing a gun in an elevator at a Harlem apartment building.

The man is seen on video entering the West 143rd Street building on Oct. 30 around 1 a.m. before firing four rounds from a silver handgun into the elevator, one of which hit the 20-year old woman, an NYPD spokesman said.

The victim was taken to Columbia Presbyterian Hospital for treatment, police said.

Police did not say what prompted the shooting. 

The suspect fled the location. He is described as having a thin build and was dressed in black, police said.
