MOTT HAVEN — Talk about making a clean getaway.

A South Bronx burglar stole about $144 worth of soaps from a dollar store last month, according to the NYPD.

The thief entered Dollar Tree at 250 E. 144th St. on Oct. 21 around 7:40 p.m. and went into a storage area, where he snatched the soaps and fled, police said.

Store manager Monejah Bailey said she was working at the shop when the burglary took place but noted the thief was able to sneak out through the storage room.

"He went out the door that was in the stockroom," she said. "I knew what happened because I heard the alarmed door go off."

She said the store had never dealt with a burglary of this magnitude before.

"As far as going into the stockroom, taking boxes, this is the first time," she said.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or, for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
