Teen Arrested For Attempted Robbery Outside Atlantic Terminal, Police Say

PARK SLOPE — A 14 year-old boy was arrested after threatening to injure a 53-year-old man while trying to rob him outside Atlantic Terminal mall, according to a police report.

The man was sitting and looking at his cellphone outside the mall on Atlantic and Flatbush avenues on Oct. 19 at 10:25 p.m. when the teen approached him and said, "Empty your pockets. If you don’t when I see you, I will hurt you," according to a police report.

The boy then motioned to his waistband as if to suggest he had a gun, according to the report. The victim walked away and no property was stolen, according to the report.

Other recent crimes in the 78th Precinct include the following, with details coming from police reports:

► A 20-year-old man was arrested after slapping a 14-year-old girl's buttocks at the Secondary School of Journalism on Seventh Avenue and Fourth Street on Oct. 21.

► A 24-year-old man was arrested for driving while intoxicated after making a U-turn that interfered with traffic on Sixth Avenue and Flatbush Avenue on Oct. 23 at 3:45 a.m. The arresting officer smelled a strong odor of alcohol and the driver had slurred speech, watery red eyes and .099 blood alcohol level.

► A man in his 20s used a fake $50 bill to buy items at Dunkin' Donuts on Third Avenue and 13th Street on Oct. 20 at 6:39 p.m. and received $35.45 in change, which he pocketed.

► A 60-year-old man was arrested after hitting a 54-year-old man in the face and the shoulder and threatening him with a bottle at the Grand Army Plaza 2/3 station on Oct. 20 at 8:16 a.m.

Overall, major crime in the 78th Precinct has dropped 10.7 percent this year compared to the same period in 2015, according to the most recent statistics from the NYPD. There were 695 major crimes reported between Jan. 1 and Oct. 16, 2016, and 778 major crimes during that period in 2015.
