WILLIAMSBURG — The MTA plans to "simplify" the route of the Q59 bus in Williamsburg with new "left turn improvements" the Department of Transportation is making at the intersection of Union and Metropolitan avenues, the transportation authority said in their monthly meeting on Wednesday.

The Q59's current westbound route in Williamsburg goes north on Union Avenue then makes a sharp left turn to go south on Meeker Avenue before turning onto Metropolitan Avenue.

The eastbound route goes along Metropolitan Avenue, then turns right onto Union Avenue where it travels south.

The DOT's "left turn improvements" involve installing a left turn signal and signal timing changes at the intersection, and adding a westbound traffic lane along Union Avenue.

The westbound route will then change so that the bus turns left on Metropolitan Avenue instead of Meeker. The rest of the route remains the same.

The MTA said the rerouting will neither cost nor save the authority money, and will take effect in November.
