QUEENS — A 27-year-old Rego Park man was arrested after police officers found two laundry bags filled with more than 10 pounds of marijuana in his apartment, authorities said.

Police officers made the discovery on Saturday, Oct. 22 when they were responding to a 911 call about “an assault in progress” at an apartment building on Queens Boulevard, between 65th and 64th roads, around 10:45 p.m., according to the criminal complaint.

When they got there, they heard a man and a woman arguing inside a fifth floor apartment. Officers knocked but the man, later identified as Richard Perreira, refused to open the door, court documents said.

One of the officers then went to an apartment located one floor above their place and used the fire escape to climb down, where he spotted two large laundry bags on the fire escape adjacent to the apartment.

Then Perreira reached out the window, pulled one of the bags inside his apartment, walked to another window and then threw it out, according to the complaint.

Another officer found the bag and discovered several vacuum-sealed packages of marijuana inside.

The officers later recovered the second bag, which also contained packages of weed.

In total, there was more than 10 pounds of marijuana inside the bags, police said.

The 112th Precinct later tweeted a photo of the bags with marijuana recovered at the location.

Perreira, who officials said had one prior arrest for public urination earlier this year, was charged with criminal possession of marijuana.

He was arraigned over the weekend and released on $2,500 cash bail, according to the Queens District Attorney’s office. He is due back in court on Nov. 21.

Perreira’s attorney could not immediately be reached for comment.
