Celebrate Halloween in Bed-Stuy With These 10 Family-Friendly Events

BEDFORD-STUYVESANT — Put on your best costume and get in the Halloween spirit to celebrate the season in Bedford-Stuyvesant.

Whether it’s a pumpkin-filled festivity, scary storytime or finding the best blocks to trick-or-treat, there’s plenty for families to do in the neighborhood.

Friday, Oct. 28

Halloween Celebration for Kids

Where: Macon Library, 361 Lewis Ave.
When: 3 p.m.

Come dressed in costume and hear some spooky tales at this storytime and party for children and families.

Movies Under the Stars: Shocktoberfest – “Krampus”

Where: Herbert Von King Cultural Arts Center, 630 Lafayette Ave.
When: 6 to 7:45 p.m.

Check out the horror comedy flick “Krampus,’” which tells the story of a monster punishing kids at Christmastime. Moviegoers are encouraged to come early and bring their own picnic blanket or chairs.

Saturday, Oct. 29

Brighter Choice Community School’s Fall Festival

Where: Brighter Choice Community School’s Pre-K yard and garden, 280 Hart St.
When: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Spend the morning with crafts and games for the family and debut your most creative costume at BCCS’s contest. Show off your best recipes at the chili and pie cook-off. Suggested donation is $5 per family.

Pumpkinpalooza

Where: Bread Love, 1933 Fulton St.
When: 2 to 5 p.m.

Get your fill of all-things pumpkin at Bread Love’s fall celebration. A live DJ will spin tunes all afternoon while you snack on pumpkin spice waffles, pie, cookies, beer and more. Carve your greatest pumpkin creation and end the day with some pumpkin ice cream. The celebration continues at 6 p.m. with a showing of “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.”

NYSOM Halloween Havoc in Brooklyn

Where: Stuyvesant Gardens Community Center, 214 Stuyvesant Ave.
When: 2 to 5 p.m.

This free “spooktacular” Halloween event features a “sweet and scary scavenger hunt,” pumpkin painting, costume contest, arts and crafts and more, with fun for the whole family. 

Monday, Oct. 31

Kids Create: Halloween Craft

Where: Bedford Library, 496 Franklin Ave.
When: 3:30 p.m.

Scary skeletons come alive at this arts and crafts event at the Brooklyn Public Library’s Bedford branch. Stories abound and kids aged 4 through 8 are welcome to make their own skeleton.

►  BID or Treat

Where: Marcy Plaza, corner of Fulton Street and Marcy Avenue
When: 4 to 6 p.m.

The Bed-Stuy Gateway Business Improvement District presents this free, rain-or-shine celebration with face painting, balloon art and games for children. Kids ages 1 through 14 are welcome.

Stuyvesant Heights Parents Association Annual Halloween Tour

Where: Meet at Fulton Park at Fulton Street and Stuyvesant Avenue
When: 4 p.m. meet-up time, houses open until 7 p.m.

The annual Halloween trick-or-treat crawl features maps of participating “haunted” houses in the neighborhood, with candy and surprises for children of all ages.

10th Annual Bed-Stuy Halloween Trick-or-Treat Blocks Map

Where: Halsey to Monroe streets, Marcus Garvey Boulevard to Tompkins Avenue
When: 4:30 to 8 p.m.

Get your fill of tricks and treats where organizers have mapped participating neighborhood blocks. Follow the orange and black balloons in the area and pick up a map at the FoodTown on Fulton Street near Brooklyn Avenue.

► Second Annual Halloween Festival at Hancock Park

Where: Hancock Park, P.S. 3, between Bedford and Franklin avenues
When: 6 to 9 p.m.

Hear Halloween stories and get candies and giveaways at Hancock Park’s annual festival. Kids, teens and adults can show off their costumes in a contest, and all children under 10 must be accompanied by a parent.
