BROOKLYN — A man tried to rape a woman in a Greenwood Heights building after helping her off the ground when she tripped on the sidewalk, police said.
The 38-year-old woman was walking home from the 25th Street R train station on Saturday at about 10:31 p.m. — while being followed by the man — when she fell on the street, according to the NYPD and Chief of Detectives Bob Boyce.
“This male came to her aid, picked her up. Immediately acted as a good Samaritan,” Boyce said during an unrelated press conference Monday. “As he walked her along they walked into a building and that attempted sexual assault happened.”
She was able to fight him off and the man fled, Boyce said.
The woman suffered minor injuries and refused medical attention at the scene, according to police.
Investigators canvassed the area and were able to find video of the suspect entering a deli a few blocks away after the assault, Boyce added.
He is about 23 years old, 5-foot-10 and about 160 pounds.
