STUYVESANT TOWN — A robber targeted three women in Stuy Town and the East Village in a single night, punching one and wrestling another to the ground before prying a cellphone away from her, the NYPD said.

The attacks all happened within an hour on Aug. 10 starting at 2 a.m., when he came up behind a 51-year-old woman near East 10th Street and Third Avenue, punched her and grabbed her phone before running off, according to authorities.

About 45 minutes later, he snuck up behind a 26-year-old woman at East 18th Street and First Avenue and dragged her to the ground. But she fought back and when she began to scream, he gave up and fled empty-handed, police said.

The robber found his next victim, a 20-year-old New York University student, as she was walking into her Stuy Town apartment building just before 3 a.m.. He followed the woman into her lobby and demanded she hand over her cellphone, according to officials.

When she refused and fought back, the suspect wrestled her to the ground and took her phone, police said.

"She did a real good job, she threw him around a little," said Deputy Inspector Brendan Timoney, the commanding officer of the 13th Precinct during a community council meeting on Tuesday.

Police are looking for the robber, who they described as being between 25 and 30 years old and last seen wearing a gray hoodie, a baseball cap and dark jeans.
