ASTORIA — A neighborhood bar known for its toppings-packed hot dogs and other pub fare was seized by the state this week for owing more than $150,000 in taxes, according to the Department of Taxation and Finance.

Authorities seized the New York Dog House on Monday for having seven open warrants for unpaid sales tax and two other warrants for withholding tax, a Tax Department spokesman said.

Combined, the eatery — located on 30th Avenue and 37th Street — owes the state $153,969.41, according to the spokesman.

The restaurant was closed Thursday afternoon, with a note on the door from management that said the tax seizure was due to the "unethical behavior of the Department of State."

"As many of you know this place is run by honest, hard working, passionate, and dedicated individuals, who have nothing but love for the New York Dog House," the notes says.

"We are working extremely hard to resolve this most challenging situation we have ever faced thus far."

Properties that are seized for unpaid taxes can be returned if the owner and the state are able to "reach a mutually agreeable solution" to resolving the debt, according to the Tax Department's website.

New York Dog House opened its doors in 2013, with a menu featuring a number of signature hot dogs packed with toppings such as smashed avocado or fresh pineapple.

Phone message left at the eatery's main number as well as a phone number posted to the front window were not immediately returned Thursday.
