THE BRONX — A woman fought off a man who put her in a chokehold, knocked her to the ground and tried to rape her on Tuesday, according to police.

The suspect snuck up behind the 29-year-old woman as she walked into her home near Watson Avenue in Soundview at around 1:55 a.m., police said.

The woman struggled when he put her into a chokehold and they both fell to the ground, police said.

The suspect punched the woman in the face and tried to rape her but she kicked him repeatedly until he gave up and ran, police said.

Police describe the suspect as a man in his 20s who was last seen wearing a gray jacket and blue jeans, police said.

The woman was taken to a local hospital and is in stable condition, police said.
