EAST VILLAGE — Bakerita, an offshoot of the Brooklyn-based Bakeri, is hawking coffee, breads and pastries from a new East Sixth Street shop.
The owners of the chain known for its homemade, fresh-baked pastries and breads have unfurled a smaller operation at 627 E. Sixth St., where a daily selection of goods are brought in from Brooklyn outposts and sold alongside Counter Culture coffee.
"It's nice to be able to say they're all from the same place and I know the people making them and I know what goes into them, I know the ingredients," said Catherine Stack who runs the East Village spot with Nate Doyle.
"That it's all under one roof is really amazing, and to have a sampling of all the best things under one roof in Manhattan and be in in this neighborhood is super amazing."
The majority of the baking takes place at the Greenpoint location, said Doyle, while some of the work is done at a Williamsburg outpost.
The shop officially opened its doors over the weekend.
