HARLEM — A West Harlem man helping a friend was robbed after he chased a car that fled the scene of an accident, the NYPD said.
The 58-year-old victim was giving a jump to a friend's car on East 135th Street and Lenox Avenue when another vehicle crashed into it on Oct. 16 around 2 a.m., police said.
Police said the driver then fled. The victim jumped into his car and gave chase.
The victim caught up to the car at the intersection of East 132nd Street and Park Avenue and attempted to confront the driver. However, two men exited the car, smashed the victim's window and punched the victim multiple times in the face before robbing him, police said.
"Give me the phone. Give me the money," police said one of the suspects said to the victim.
The assailants fled on FDR Drive with the victims' iPhone 5, police said.
They were described as in their 30s, standing roughly 5-foot-10 and driving a gold-colored vehicle.
