HARLEM — The famous Apollo Theater is heading back to the silver screen.
The theater’s iconic “Showtime at the Apollo” talent series, which went off the air in 2008, will air a two-hour television special of the show hosted by talk show host and comedian Steve Harvey.
The special will air Dec. 5 from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. on FOX, with an additional one-hour special, also hosted by Harvey, to air in early 2017.
The two-hour event will include the theater’s famous talent showcase series “Amateur Night at the Apollo,” where up-and-coming artists perform in front of an audience known to boo performers off the stage if they didn’t win the crowd over.
Amateur Night launched the careers of many well-known artists, including James Brown, Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson.
