Bank Robber Busted With Cash Outside Upper East Side Branch, Police Say

By Shaye Weaver | October 10, 2016 2:13pm

UPPER EAST SIDE — A man who robbed a bank of hundreds of dollars didn't make it far before getting arrested, police said.

Garvin Clouden, 31, of The Bronx, walked into an Apple Bank at 812 Lexington Ave., at East 62nd Street, and demanded money by passing notes to the teller written on two withdrawal slips at about 3:10 p.m. on Sept. 30, authorities said.

The cashier complied, handing over $220 in cash as well as dye packs, police said.

Officers responded to the scene and arrested Clouden outside of the bank. He was charged with robbery and criminal possession of stolen property, according to the NYPD.

During his arraignment on Oct. 1, a judge ordered that he complete a psychiatric exam, authorities said. He's currently being held at Rikers Island pending his next court date on Oct. 28.

His attorney was not immediately available on Monday. Apple Bank did not return a request for comment.

The 19th Precinct congratulated the two officers who made the arrest on Twitter:

In addition to sending over the numbers, the victim allowed the suspect to access her computer remotely.
