MANHATTAN — A couple assaulted and robbed an 82-year-old woman across the street from the Morgan Library Wednesday night, police said.

The elderly woman was walking in front of 36 E. 36th St. at about 9:35 p.m. on Oct. 5 when a man and woman threw her to the ground and stole her handbag containing $200, a flip-phone and credit cards, according to the NYPD.

The woman suffered a split lip, chipped tooth and bruising to her knee and elbow. She refused medical attention at the scene.

The man had cornrows, was carrying a large black-and-white backpack and is about 17 years old, police said.

The woman had long red hair.

The robbery is the latest in a string of assaults and muggings against elderly people.
