LONG ISLAND CITY — Police are searching for a dapper robber who hit three banks in Queens and Manhattan, making off with thousands of dollars and fleeing each scene by subway, according the NYPD.

The suspect — who wore a suit and hat during all three thefts — first struck on June 28 when he entered a Citibank on First Avenue and 71st Street shortly before 8:30 a.m. with a gun, police said.

The man forced bank employees into the vault area, then tried to take money from the vault but was unsuccessful.

Officials believe the suspect takes the subway to and from each heist.

He had better luck on July 15 when he went into a Santander Bank on Jackson and 45th avenues in Long Island City around 9:30 a.m. and demanded the teller turn over cash, police said. He fled with $7,800.

The suspect struck again on Oct. 4, entering a Valley National Bank branch on Second Avenue and 70th Street around 9:30 a.m. armed with a gun, according to police.

He ordered the tellers to open the bank's money drawers and removed more than $13,000 before fleeing south on Second Avenue, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS.
