Man Fatally Struck by Car While Crossing Queens Highway, Police Say

QUEENS — A man was fatally struck while trying to cross a Queens highway early Wednesday morning, police said.

The 67-year-old pedestrian was attempting to cross the Van Wyck Expressway from the northbound side near the Atlantic Avenue exit just after midnight when was hit by a 2005 Chrysler Pacifica SUV, according to the NYPD.

The victim, whose name has not been released as of Thursday morning, suffered severe leg trauma. He was rushed to Jamaica Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, police said.

The driver of the Chrysler, a 32-year-old man, stayed at the scene, officials said.

No arrests had been made as of Thursday. The NYPD's Collision Investigation Squad is investigating the crash.
