OCEAN BREEZE — A woman stole a purse inside a Staten Island hospital then used the cards inside to withdraw cash and try to make purchases, a law enforcement source said.

Prosecutors said Elizabeth Priola, 28, used a stolen card to withdraw about $1,100 in cash from the Chase Bank at 1690 Hylan Blvd. Sept. 30. Sources said Priola had swiped the card out of a bag left in a room at Staten Island University Hospital North last month. The bag had an iPad, a student ID card, a cellphone and four credit cards inside, the source said.

Priola also tried to use the stolen card to purchase items at the CVS at 1361 Hylan Blvd. on Oct. 1 but it was declined, authorities said.

"I threw the credit cards out by the bank," Priola told officers when she was arrested on Sunday, according to court documents. "I tried to use the credit card in CVS but that card was declined. I was so mad."

Priola was charged with criminal possession of stolen property, petit larceny, attempted petit larceny and identity theft at her arraignment, according to the Staten Island District Attorney's office.

She was released without bail and is due back in court on Thursday, according to online court records.

Her lawyer did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
