HARLEM – A man died after being shot in the back and leg just a few blocks from his East Harlem apartment Monday night, the NYPD said.

Corey Brown, 39, was on the corner of East 132nd Street and Madison Avenue when a gunman opened fire on him at around 11:20 p.m., an NYPD spokesman said.

Brown, who lived on Madison Avenue near East 135th Street, suffered critical injuries and died at Harlem Hospital Tuesday, authorities said.

It wasn't immediately clear what prompted the shooting, police said.

There were no immediate arrests and police could not yet provide a description of a suspect.
