Man Who Confronted Friend for Using N-Word Hurt in Village Fight, NYPD Says

By Danielle Tcholakian | September 28, 2016 4:00pm

WEST VILLAGE — A man who told his friend not to call him the N-word had his head cracked open when the two began to fight on Gansevoort Street, police said.

Police said the 45-year-old victim was talking with his friend when the man called him the N-word about 3:30 a.m. on Gansevoort and West 13th Streets on Sept. 22.

The incident was first reported by the New York Daily News.

The victim told the other man not to use that word and to never call him that again, and the other man shoved him to the ground, police said.

Police said the attack left a gash in the back of the victim's head that required staples at the nearby Lenox Health Greenwich Village emergency room.

An NYPD spokeswoman said police know the attacker's name because he was an acquaintance of the victim, but declined to disclose the name as no arrests have been made yet.

The NYPD's Hate Crimes Task Force is investigating the incident, the spokeswoman said.
