
SUNSET PARK — Six inmates were injured Tuesday night at a federal prison in Sunset Park and transported to a local hospital with multiple injuries, officials said.
Staff at Metropolitan Detention Center, located at 80 29th St., responded after a report that six inmates were fighting, a spokeswoman for The Federal Bureau of Prisons said. The FDNY was called to the jail about 7:35 p.m.
The incident was immediately contained and all patients were rushed to Lutheran Medical Center at 8:17 p.m., authorities said. Four victims had serious but non life-threatening injuries and two had minor injuries, fire officials said.
No staff members were injured in the incident, the spokeswoman said. Details of the injuries were not immediately available.
According to the Daily News, it was initially reported that the injuries included stab wounds.
The facility houses a total of 1,761 male and female offenders, according to the website for The Federal Bureau of Prisons, which will conduct an investigation into the incident.
