ASTORIA — The city's Medical Examiner is unable to determine a cause of death for Sierra Shields, the flight attendant who was missing for eight months before her remains were found on the shore of Rikers Island almost two weeks ago.

The Medical Examiner's office ruled Shields' cause and manner of death "undetermined," according to a spokeswoman, a ruling that was "reached after exhausting all the testing and available information."

Shields, a 30-year-old flight attendant from Astoria, was last seen leaving her job at LaGuardia Airport on Jan. 14, police said. Family and friends said she'd seemed upset in the days before her disappearance.

Shields' remains were found on the shore of Rikers Island West on Sept. 14, eight months after she went missing, according to police.

Her family posted Sunday on a Facebook page set up to help search for Shields, asking people to share their photos, stories and memories of her.

"We do not have answers but we do have memories," the post reads. "Thank you for your kindness, love and support as we grieve Sierra's passing and celebrate Sierra's life."
