QUEENS PLAZA — Gordo's Cantina, a food vendor that's previously served its grub at street festivals and temporary pop-ups, will open its first brick-and-mortar restaurant in Long Island City.

The new eatery will open Tuesday at 24-11 Queens Plaza North near 24th Street offering tacos, open-faced quesadillas and other food inspired by Central Mexican cuisine, according to a press release.

"As a Queens native seeing Long Island City develop and expand at such an accelerated rate, I felt this was the perfect opportunity to open our first brick and mortar location," the restaurant's owner JR Savage said in a statement.

Savage launched Gordo's Cantina in 2014, and has served his food at the Hester Street Fair, Electric Zoo and during a pop-up at Bar Nine in Hell's Kitchen.

The restaurant will be decorated with items found at flea markets in Mexico, with its design inspired by the 60s and 70s, according to a press release.

Diners at Gordo's Cantina can expect to find menu items like a tiger shrimp and pico de gallo taco, bacon-wrapped hot dogs and rabbit served in salsa verde.

The restaurant will be open starting Sept. 27, operating Monday to Wednesday from noon to 11 p.m., Thursday to Saturday from noon to 12 a.m. and Sunday from noon to 10 p.m.
