CHELSEA — A local councilman is leading a “small business crawl” along the block of West 23rd Street where a bomb exploded last weekend to support stores on the street.

Councilman Corey Johnson will kick off the event at West 23rd Street and Seventh Avenue at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24.

He plans to proceed east from there, making stops at businesses along the street until around 5 p.m., but attendees can feel free stop by the block at any time, a spokesman said.

“Between last week’s explosion and the resulting street closures, the Chelsea small businesses that serve our community took a hit,” Johnson said in a statement.

“Whether it’s by grabbing a bite, going shopping or otherwise patronizing our small businesses, let’s get out there on Saturday and show them our support and appreciation,” he added.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo, meanwhile, has promised that the state will help businesses damaged by the blast pay for their losses.
