NEW YORK CITY — Anthony Weiner's cellphone has been subpoenaed by federal investigators following allegations that he had a sexting relationship with a 15-year-old girl, CNN reported Thursday.
The office of Preet Bharara, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, declined to comment on the subpoena.
But CNN reported that the FBI and NYPD had begun to investigate Weiner's text messages with the girl.
The former New York State congressman claimed the girl's allegations were untrue and that he was the victim of a hoax.
The girl gave an interview and copies of the text messages to the Daily Mail, the newspaper said. The Mail published its story one day before the subpoena was issued.
