TRIBECA — An NYPD traffic agent was left with a bloody nose after getting into an argument with a man on Canal Street, police said.

The 51-year-old traffic agent told police that his assailant got riled up over "instructions" he'd given him and they got into a dispute on Canal Street and Sixth Avenue at about 7 p.m. on Sept. 17, according to authorities.

The 27-year-old attacker yelled "Why the f--k you stopping me?" before punching the traffic agent in the face, police said.

Details about why the man was stopped, or what the argument was about was not immediately clear.

The man fled down Canal Street before NYPD arrived.

Police were still investigating the incident.
