CHELSEA — Neighbors will have the chance to weigh on how to spend $1 million in city funding as the participatory budgeting process kicks off in Councilman Corey Johnson's district with a brainstorming event on the High Line this weekend.

On Saturday, residents living in Council District 3 — which includes Hell’s Kitchen, Chelsea, the West Village and parts of the Upper West Side, SoHo and Flatiron — can submit ideas for neighborhood improvements, meet other residents, register to vote in the participatory budgeting process and learn about the projects that secured funding last year.

This past spring, residents voted to fund tree plantings and real-time bus-arrival screen installations throughout the district, among other improvements.

At the end of August, the city’s Department of Transportation finished repairing sidewalks outside the Elliott-Chelsea Houses — a project local residents voted to finance during the 2015 participatory budgeting vote, Johnson’s office said.

“This project shows what we can accomplish when our community and city work together to resolve important local issues,” Johnson said after unveiling the sidewalks on Thursday. “It also demonstrates the value of participatory budgeting.”

Refreshments will be served at this Saturday’s event, which will start at 2 p.m. on the High Line, above the entrances at West 14th Street and 10th Avenue.

Residents who can’t attend the event can bring their ideas to one of three neighborhood assemblies taking place on Monday, Sept. 19, Wednesday, Sept. 28, and Thursday, Sept. 29, at venues in the district.
