MORRISANIA — A thief attacked and robbed a 71-year-old man in a South Bronx grocery store, according to the NYPD.

The robbery took place on Aug. 26 around 4:30 p.m. at 391 E. 167th St., when the suspect came up to his victim and demanded money, police said.

The victim refused, so the suspect forced him to the back of the store, took out a small cutting instrument and started hitting him on the head, according to police.

It was unclear what exact type of weapon the suspect used, police said.

The robber grabbed his victim’s wallet, which had $500 and a credit card inside, and left the store, police said.

His victim followed him and saw the thief go into a residential building at 1115 Clay Ave., and EMS then took the victim to St. Barnabas Hospital in stable condition, where officials determined he has suffered multiple skull fractures, according to the NYPD.

Officers described the suspect as about 6 feet tall with a medium build and was last seen wearing a black hat, blue shorts, black sneakers and a blue T-shirt.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or, for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
