243 Bed-Stuy Homes Lose Power After Manhole Fire, Officials Say

BROOKLYN — Nearly 250 Bedford-Stuyvesant homes lost power when a manhole fire erupted on Putnam Avenue Thursday night, officials said.

The fire broke out at 530 Putnam Ave., near Throop Avenue, about 10:12 p.m. and knocked out power to two square blocks bordered by Putnam, Throop, Hancock Street and Marcus Garvey Boulevard, FDNY and Con Ed officials said.

According to the utility company's outage map, 243 homes lost power.

They're expected to have electricity restored by 10 a.m. Friday, according to the map.

There were no reported injuries in the manhole fire.
