Man Arrested After Shoving NYPD Officer on Flatbush Avenue, Police Say

PARK SLOPE — A man was arrested for punching a 16-year-old boy in the face and shoving a police officer during a dispute that stopped rush hour traffic on Flatbush and Atlantic avenues, according to a police report.

The 21-year-old man bloodied the teen's nose and also punched a car the teen was riding in with a woman on Aug. 31 at 5:19 p.m. in the middle of the street at the busy intersection, according to the report.

The confrontation stopped traffic and caused a backup of several cars, according to a criminal complaint filed by the Brooklyn District Attorney's office. When a police officer intervened, the man shoved the officer then resisted arrest, according to the complaint.

Other recent crimes in the 78th Precinct include the following, with all details coming from police reports:

► A 33-year-old man was arrested after clobbering another man in the head with a large beer bottle inside Prospect Park on Sept. 9 at 12:50 a.m. The victim, 42, sustained a large bruise and was taken by ambulance to Kingsbrook Hospital.

► A 23-year-old man was arrested after he was caught on video surveillance swiping a woman's purse from under the bar at Lucky 13 Saloon on Sackett Street and Fourth Avenue at 3:40 a.m. on Sept. 4. The purse contained $350 in cash, keys and credit cards, one of which the thief tried to use at least three times after the theft.

► A 55-year-old man was arrested Sept. 3 after stealing $103 in seafood from the Stop & Shop at Atlantic Center mall on Atlantic and Flatbush avenues.

► A 49-year-old man was arrested after stealing a TV, jeans and shirts from the Target inside the Atlantic Terminal mall on Sept. 2.

► A thief stole a 17-year-old boy's Escape 2 metallic blue and orange bike and Kryptonite lock from inside the gate in front of his house on Second Street near Fifth Avenue on Sept. 4.

► A $200 bike was stolen Aug. 31 from near Flatbush Avenue and Sterling Place.

Overall, major crime in the 78th Precinct has dropped 10 percent this year compared to the same period in 2015, according to the most recent statistics from the NYPD. There were 558 major crimes reported between Jan. 1 and Aug. 28, 2016, and 623 major crimes during that period in 2015.
