MIDTOWN — A thief stole an 85-year-old man’s $39,500 Rolex during a struggle that left the watch owner with cuts and bruises, according to the NYPD.

The victim, from California, was walking to his hotel from Grand Central Terminal on Madison Avenue between West 46th and 47th streets around 11:15 p.m. on Aug. 28 when the thief tried to sell him a magazine, police said.

The victim refused and turned onto West 47th Street, but the thief snuck up on him not long after, grabbed him from behind and tried to take off his pricey timepiece, the NYPD said.

After putting up a struggle, the 85-year-old fell to the ground, cutting and bruising his knees and elbow, police said.

A witness helped the victim fight off the thief, who fled the scene with the stolen watch, according to police.

Police hadn’t arrested anyone in connection with the incident as of Monday.
