Apollo Theater To Host Presidential Debate Viewing Party

HARLEM — The famous Apollo Theater is hosting a viewing party for the first sparring match between the 2016 presidential hopefuls.

The first debate between Democrat Hillary Clinton and Republican Donald Trump will take place at Hofstra University in Hempstead, New York on Sept. 26.

Lester Holt, the anchor of the “NBC Nightly News,” will be the moderator.  

The Apollo will kick off the event at 7:30 p.m. with music by the Hot 97 and WBLS DJ Enuff, along with performances by soul jazz violinist and singer Charisa the Violin Diva and string quartet Diverse Concert Artists.

Before the debate viewing begins around 9 p.m., journalist Keli Goff, who hosts The Greene Space on WNYC, will head up a panel discussion. 

The panelists include Derek Dingle, editor-in-chief of Black Enterprise, political analyst Amy Holmes, Scott McConnell, founding editor of The American Conservative, and Mariela Salgado, award-winning journalist for Univision 41 News.

ABC7 News anchor Rob Nelson will also facilitate an audience Q&A.

The New York Public Library will also have politically-themed books, CDs and DVDs on display.

The Women’s Political Caucus of New York will be onsite to register eligible residents to vote.
