MIDTOWN — Things were looking good, but then Hurricane Hermine had to show up.

Labor Day weekend now looks likely to be rain soaked as the storm currently in the Gulf of Mexico works its way up the Atlantic coast, according to the National Weather Service.

Saturday is still looking decent with partly sunny skies and highs in the mid 70s, but winds will increase later that night with a 60 percent chance of rain for Sunday and highs in the low 70s, a NWS spokeswoman said.

Lows are still expected to be in the mid to upper 60s during the weekend.

While it’s too soon to predict the storm’s path, forecasters are “certain about strong currents and high surf” during the weekend,” the spokeswoman added.

So beachgoers should be extra careful when wading into the water.

The city's Office of Emergency Management said they were also tracking the storm.

“September is also National Preparedness Month — we encourage all New Yorkers to make a family emergency plan, pack a Go Bag, and have an emergency supply kit to be ready for any kind of emergency,” OEM Commissioner Joseph Esposito said in a statement.

OEM also encouraged New Yorkers to check if they were in a coastal flood zone

Labor Day is looking a little better with mostly cloudy skies expected and highs in the upper 70s.
